Scholorships/Assistantships

The Gülen Institute offers financial support to students enrolled in the University of Houston.  We seek to support students who are conducting original research in subjects related to democratization, positive social change, international peace, conflict resolution, and poverty.  At the conclusion of their funding period, students receiving the Gülen Institute scholarship will be expected to analyze and prepare the results of their research for publication.  At this time, the funding is allocated through the GCSW and is only available to Social Work graduate students.

Since 2008, the Gülen Institute Graduate Scholarship has been awarded to several outstanding MA students.

The Gülen Institute also awards a number of one-semester Assistantships to incoming and current graduate students each year.  Although, there are no disciplinary restrictions for applications, preference is given to applications from the departments of Social Work, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, and Education.  Awards are competitive and are based upon grade-point average, GRE scores, and letters of recommendation. All graduate assistants working with the Gülen Institute are eligible for tuition remission and a monthly stipend.  New students should be aware that Assistantships cannot be awarded until acceptance into a University of Houston graduate program is official.
